Purveyors of screaming lo-fi rock'n'roll, Lisa Jayne and Jerry Teel of the Honey Moon Killers, are joined by Stumblin' Jack Martin and Lazy Susan to bring all you good folks out there a tasty serving of country music. John Denver it aint and when in full flight, this formidable foursome don't run out of gas. With a Southern drawl and tongues slightly in cheek, they will regale you with familiar tales of life's little quirks, mean mean men, broken dreams, bad whiskey and low-down cheatin' wimen. The sound is rough'n'ready and faithful to the spirit of early hillbilly/rockabilly, cutting through years of over-produced, synthetic Memphis country schmaltz. On this album the songs, particularly the stand-out track "Take Time To Know Her", have a well judged balance of cornball pathos and gritty sincerity. If you dig the country flavoured tunes of The Beasts Of Bourbon, Robbie Fulks, Fred Negro and The Geraldine Fibbers, then Little Porkchop will make you feel like you are not alone in this world.
