Bipolar Cowboy is, in almost every respect, a more lo-fi and punk-influenced release than most of the band's earlier work. By featuring the band's angular, scratchy side (and dropping some of the Southern riff-rock leanings that hampered Fire in the Hole), the record asks to be taken much more seriously than other releases, creating a trashier, more Southern counterpart to the riot grrrl acts of the Northwest. Judging by these standards, Bipolar Cowboy is the band's best release. ~ Nitsuh Abebe
Melody Maker (10/7/95, p.39) - "...A willfully lo-fi X-Ray Spex....if Poly Styrene had been born in Raleigh, NC, USA she'd sound just like this--great....straight-ahead punkin'/bumpkin country music. A little treasure."
